Dr. Klemenz studied chemistry at Technische Universität Darmstadt and spent a year abroad at University of California, Davis. He was admitted as a fellow to the Darmstadt Graduate School of Excellence Energy Science and Engineering (GS ESE) and received his PhD in 2017 in the field of inorganic solid-state chemistry, focusing on nanoscale transition metal borides. As a postdoctoral researcher, he worked on quantum materials at the Max-Planck-Institut für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe in Dresden and at Princeton University in New Jersey, USA. From 2021 to 2026, he led a research group within the ATTRACT excellence funding program of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, focusing on additive manufacturing of functional materials at Fraunhofer IWKS in Hanau. Since 2026, he has been serving as Managing Director of the university-wide research field “Energy and Environment” at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Dr. Klemenz is a recipient of the Athene Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Chemistry at TU Darmstadt Chemie Fachbereich and has completed extensive training in higher education teaching. This includes certifications in university teaching as well as writing consultation and writing training at TU Darmstadt, along with a Teaching Transcript from the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton University. Dr. Klemenz is an elected board member of the “Functional Materials” division of DECHEMA and serves on the advisory board of the “Nano- and Mesoscopic Systems” group. From 2024 to January 2026, he was a member of the Scientific-Technical Council of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. ● 02.2026 Geschäftsführer des Forschungsfelds Energy & Environment an der TU Darmstadt ● 02.2021 – 01.2026 Attract-Gruppenleiter Fraunhofer-Einrichtung für Wertstoffkreisläufe und Ressourcenstrategie IWKS, Hanau ● 05.2020 – 01.2021 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am MPI CPfS, Dresden ● 02.2018 – 02.2020 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, Princeton University ● 01.2017 – 12.2017 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am MPI CPfS, Dresden ● 08.2017 Promotion Dr. rer. nat., Technische Universität Darmstadt ● 11.2015 – 12.2016 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, TU Darmstadt ● 11.2012 – 10.2015 Promotionsstipendium der Darmstadt Graduate School of Excellence Energy Science and Engineering (GS ESE) ● 09. 2011 – 08. 2012 Auslandsjahr an der University of California Davis ● 10.2010 – 10.2012 Master-Studium Chemie, Technischen Universität Darmstadt ● 10.2007 – 09.2010 Bachelor-Studium Chemie, Technischen Universität Darmstadt Detailed Information: https://www.tu-darmstadt.de/energy-and-environment/forschungsfeld_ee/governance_ee/index.en.jsp
