SHORT CV

Detlev Quintern studied economics and political science in Oldenburg and Bremen, Arabic and Oriental studies in Hamburg and Leipzig. In Bremen he graduated as a political scientist with a theoretical-historical question on international relations (Universalist Theory of History and German Oriental Politics). After receiving his master's degree in political science, he worked as a research assistant at the Übersee Museum Bremen, for which he conceptualized exhibitions and completed his research and practical training there. He lectured in politics and history at the University of Bremen. Detlev Quintern received his doctorate from the University of Bremen with a dissertation on universalist historical theory and justice movements under the Abbasids (ca. 750-1258). He taught International Economics, History and Cultural Studies in Bremen, History of Science in Munich. His focus in teaching and research is on universal cultural history, history of science, history of ideas, and museology. In Turkey he worked for TÜBITAK and conceptualized museums and helped to establish science centers. Being Director of Teaching and Development at the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Foundation in Istanbul, he contributed to the establishment of the History of Science Master's program at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vkıf University in Istanbul. There he lectured History of Sciences in the Master's, Bachelor's and the PhD program starting in 2019. Since 2020, he has been teaching methods of cultural studies research, media history, journalism, museums and collections, and cultural heritage management at Turkish German University's Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences.
