SHORT CV

Susanne Schuster studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, the Philipps University in Marburg and the Université de Poitiers. In 2005/06, she passed the first state law examination at the Philipps University of Marburg, specialising in European and international law. After her studies, she worked as an academic assistant at Leibniz University in Hanover (at the chair of Federal Constitutional Court Judge (BVR) Prof. Dr. Henning Radtke) and in the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) as well as an intern at the Consulate General and the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York (USA). From 2009 to 2011, Ms Schuster completed her legal traineeship, including at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Berlin, at a German-Brazilian law firm (Weber & Bernardo Advogados) in Salvador (Brazil) and at The Agency for International Cooperation (Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit - GIZ) mbH in Dodoma (Tanzania). After her second state examination in law, Ms Schuster worked as a consultant at the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), as an academic assistant at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) in the Master's programme "International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law" (www.rewi.europa-uni.de/de/studium/master/ihl), as a research assistant at the National Agency for the Prevention of Torture (www.nationale-stelle.de) and at the Research Institute for Public and Private Security (FÖPS) at the HWR Berlin (www.foeps-berlin.de). Ms Schuster has been a judge at Cottbus Regional Court in the area of civil and criminal law since 2019 and a long-term lecturer in public law at TDU since 2023. Here she currently teaches international law, international business law, European law, civil procedural law and private international law. Ms Schuster completed her doctorate at the European University Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder), on the topic of "Crimes against humanity by non-state actors". Her research focuses on international criminal law, torture prevention, human rights and police and fundamental rights.
